I remember all the many many years of cooking dinner for my family. We sat down together almost every night - Mama, Papa, three girls. The food was pretty basic but healthy and it gave us a chance to talk and laugh and share. I miss that full dinner table now that my daughters are grown up and on their own.
However - there are benefits to having adult children, especially ones who love to cook. Especially one who lives with me.
Now, this is not just any pasta. You are looking at HOMEMADE pasta - made fresh just before cooking. It was fun to watch her make it and even more fun to eat it.
Add to that the joy of these fabulous roasted root vegetables, courtesy of the Brooklyn daughter - who knew carrots came in so many different colors?
All three of my daughters are great cooks - and inventive ones. They remind me of myself at 20 - always trying new things, getting fancy. Now, I am so focused on other things in my life, preparing food is at the bottom of my list.
How about you? Do you cook every day and love it?
I have come to loathe cooking, because I'm the only one in the house that enjoys 'real' food, since Kit left home. Si doesn't touch anything other than junk food and Nico has Asperger's, so is a very fussy eater. Now he's become a vegetarian, it's even worse.
I stand in my kitchen at dinnertime, wondering what the hell I can cook, that isn't junk food, but that they will eat.
It's such a shame, because I love eating and trying new things.

Not too big on the cooking, wish I could say the same about eating!! Although I have come to an increased appreciation for spices and really fresh food so all is not lost!

I used to belong to the corporate wife brigade, cooking new recipes, trying to outdo the last dinner party, tablescaping to elicit words of praise, keeping records of what I served to whom and enjoying it all. Now all I want is someone else to serve me and clean up. John and I eat our meals together at the table and we chat and laugh and the food does not matter really. He is so easy.
