World Book Night!

Is this not cool?  April 23 is the first World Book Night and I have volunteered to give away 20 books to strangers to encourage reading.  The books are specially printed for this event; the book I have is "The Namesake", which is a lovely story and better than the movie.  Millions of books (from a list of 30 books) will be given away today around the world.

My plan is to stand at our local train station, books in hand, wearing a sticker with the logo. But I am oh so concerned that I will be spurned! Wish I had a t-shirt or a big sign.  I might make one but am afraid it will look too unprofessional.  

What will happen? Who knows.  Life is an adventure.

Bookbinding Class at Zinnia

I'm so excited to go back to teaching!  March 18th at Zinnia is S. Pasadena, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Details and links will follow, but for now, please share my excitement! I love bookbinding and handcrafted books so much that I'm delighted to be able to infect others with the joy.

For the first class, I'm doing the oh, so easy "long stitch".  All the above are long stitch journals - see how versitile it is?  And the best part is that the pages fold down flat so you can easily write or paint or draw.

Journal Madness

I must confess to a very bad habit.  A very strong habit.  A habit I am unlikely to break.

I make books.

I make blank books.

I create journals and don't write in them.

 

Confession is good for the soul.

Actually, I seem now to be able to create a very specific journal and work in it.  It took a class with Judy Wise to get me in there and I have, for the first time, completely filled a journal.  Every page is painted, collaged and written.

However, most of the ones you see here are either empty or have a few pages completed.  I obviously have a ways to go in conquering my addiction.

Next time up, I'll post some pages here.  Perhaps it will keep me on the straight and narrow.

 

 

Do You Know Me?

In addition to diamond drill bits and cement hands, a bottle of champagne and more joy than is reasonable, Christmas also brought me these lovelies...

My husband thought I could use them on my book covers - and they are very cool. 

Even more cool is this fact.  He awoke on the morning of Christmas Eve, journeyed to Maple Street in downtown L.A. and waited for Bohemian Crystal to open in order to find these goodies.  Now, even I go crazy if I have to enter the sparkly and frenetic world of Bohemian Crystal, so I am doubly grateful to him for weathering the insanity to hand pick his favorites.  What a guy.  Just thought you should know....
