I'm prepping for some bookbinding projects and thought I'd share the process with you.
It's simple, really - paper, board, cloth, thread. Put them together though, and a miracle occurs. At least that's how it feels when I hold a finished book in my hands.
Tools of the trade:
Folding and tearing down parent sheets of watercolor paper is rather meditative. The repetitiveness of it was soothing to me on a day when I needed it. I usually work with 140 lb, but this time, I'm doing some 90 lb as well. If I like it, it will be a lot cheaper!
I will probably tear down some of these into smaller pages, but for now, they go into the bookpress overnight.
I would love a "real" bookpress - old, heavy, metal - but until then, these are working very well. And how lucky am I that I found them. Well, the first Smith and Hawken flower press was a gift. The second one was on eBay and the third one just turned up at the flea market.
Hmmm...flea market....I'm going tomorrow. Something to look forward to.
