Have you ever done the "trust exercise"? You stand on a chair with a group of people who've "got your back". Without checking, without looking, without pausing.....you simply fallllllllllll backwards, fully expecting that they will catch you and not let you be hurt. Talk about trust! Could you do it? If they were friends? Family? Strangers?
When I was about 34, I did a variation on this exercise. Standing on the floor, with my back to my partner, I had to fall backwards and trust her to catch me safely. It was a true act of faith, because my partner was .... 85 years old! And a petite, fragile looking woman at that. But she looked me in the eye, declared that she could do it and asked me to trust her. I let go and....it was fine. Scary, though.
Why is it so hard to TRUST?
Maybe others have let us down, perhaps repeatedly? Could we just be pessimistic and expect the worst? Trust is a huge issue and that's why it's the theme of this week's blog hop from The Declaration of You.
